A Beginner's Guide to Belonging
By Educational and Child Psychologist, lecturer and workshop facilitator, Siya Mngaza
This free document ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Belonging’ has been written by Siya Mngaza to support childminders, nurseries and schools interested in having necessary conversations about belonging.
Siya’s doctoral research was centred upon the way that Black secondary school pupils construct a sense of belonging, in predominantly White schools.
Preparing the practitioners of tomorrow
Siya has run workshops about the psychology of beauty, face filters and body modification. Siya currently lectures in educational psychology at the University of Birmingham. Her focus is upon weaving critical psychology into a traditional training course. Siya believes that the ‘personal is the political’, and is interested in developing sound ways that policy and practice can centre wellbeing, particularly for vulnerable children.
